What is a punching foul?
A punch by a player which makes contact with an opponent whether the ball is dead or alive.
What are the fundamentals of a punching foul?
- Personal Foul
- Team Foul
- 2 FT’s, ball awarded to offended team oob on either side of the court at the FT line extended whether the FT is successful or not
- Shot clock resets to 24s
- Player who throws the punch has committed an unsportsmanlike act, and is ejected following confirmation at instant replay.
- Rule is valid whether play is in progress or dead
- Multiple punching fouls: the last offended is awarded posession on sideline at FTLE in the frontcourt.
What is the fine for a punching foul?
No more than $50,000 and/or suspension
Who selects the substitutes to attempt FT’s when the offended player is ejected for a punching foul?
Opposing coach will select a substitute from bench
Where is the ball awarded OOB for a punching foul infraction?
Awarded to the opposing team oob on the nearest sideline at the free throw line extended.
