PulseOx/Capnograph Flashcards
Name two pieces of equipment that give a HR
- esophageal stethoscope
2. ECG
What does the esophageal stethoscope assess?
Heart sounds, Rate and Rhythm, and Respiratory sounds/rate
What are two things a capnograph can tell you?
- End tidal CO2 (EtCO2)
2. Breathing pattern/ventilation/apnea/respiratory rate
What part of the capnograph curve represents EtCO2
D
Be able to identify what hyperventilation, hypoventilation, rebreathing, and obstruction look like on capnograph
just know it
How to connect capnograph to patient and scavenge
- little skinny hose goes to breathing circuit (in front between it and ET tube)
- other hose attaches to the scavenge platform on the bottom- between scavenge hose and bottom
Five causes of Hypoxemia
Hypoventilation V/Q mismatch R-L shunt Decreased FiO2 Diffusion impairment
What does PulseOx measure
% hemoglobin saturation and HR
Monitors both cardiovascular and pulmonary function
What is normal pulseOx reading
≥95%
Hypoxic pulseox reading
90% or below
Where can a pulseOx monitor be places
MMs: tongue, pinna, lip, vulva, prepuce
Anywhere where there is light colored think tissue
