Pulp Cavities Flashcards
Features of pulp cavities
Generally corresponds to external contour of tooth
Aging and external factors will affect outline
Secondary dentin formation results in reduction of pulp cavity size
Portion of pulp cavity located in anatomical crown
Larger in diameter than portions of pulp cavity in roots
Pulp chamber
Portion of pulp cavity located in anatomical root
Pulp canal (root canal)
Pointed incisal/occlusal limit of pulp cavity
Reflect lobe/cups pattern of tooth
Pulp horn
Constricted opening near root apex though which main nutrient and nervous supply to pulp enter and exit
Nearly funnel shaped
Primary dentin closes it down to narrow opening when root canal development is completed
Apical foramen
Small pulp canal usually extending in horizontal direction
Lateral (accessory) canal
A canal in excess of normal number
Supplemental canal
Horizontal connection between pulp canals
Anastomosis
