Pulmonary module/Power training/HIIT Flashcards
Ventilation=
TV x RR
Digital clubbing is a sign of?
COPD
Do ppl with emphysema present as skinny or obese?
skinny
DO ppl with chronic bronchitis present as skinny or obese?
obese
T or F Restrictive disease limited inspiratory capacity but usually have unimpeded expiratory (or accelerated) capacity?
T
What is the single greatest contributor to COPD?
smoking, 10-15% of smokers will get COPD, which is still alot
Which one is differential? 02 sats, cyanosis, FVC, FEV1….?
FEV1
define strength?
Strength refers to the muscle’s ability to generate force at a given velocity.
Define power?
Power is the product of force and velocity and represents the amount of work a muscle can produce per unit of time.
how is power calculated?
Power is calculated as work/time (i.e., torque x angular displacement/time), not simply torque/time.
How to train for POWER?
Heavy resistance training (force) with slow velocity x light to mod resistance at high (velocity).
T or F . Loaded jump squats with 30% of 1 RM have been shown to increase vertical jump performance more than traditional back squats and plyometrics (276).
T
General recommendations for LE and UE power training parameters? (level A evidence)
1-3 sets
0-60% 1RM for LE, 30-60% 1RM UE
3-6 reps (not to failure)
Why train muscle power?
1) Muscle power declines faster than muscle strength
2) Not having adequate power = early predictor of functional decline
3) Decreased risk of falls
4) Functional gains
5)Slightly better gains in function than traditional resistance training
How to calculate HR max?
220-Age
How to calculate HRR (heart rate reserve)
Max HR - Resting HR = HRR
How to find target HR using The Karvonen method?
1st: Find out max HR (220-age)
2nd: Find out HR reserve (HR max - resting HR)
3rd: pick a % of intensity (ex: 60%)
4th: Max HR (190) - (60) rising HR x 60% (intensity) + 60 (resting HR) = Target HR would be 138 BPM for 60% intensity.
When might u use RPE scale as apposed to HR monitoring with a patient?
When they are on beta blocker
T or F Both the 6-20 and 0-10 scales are used in clinical practice to measure perceived exertion; no current recommendations exist regarding use of one scale in preference to another
T
in regards to HIIT Longer duration/shorter rest protocols tend to lead to more gains??? T or F
T
Does HIIT promote type I or type II fiber production ?
Type II
Patient with history of CVA and left hemiparesis (8 months ago), gait speed is 0.4 m/sec with single-point cane and supervision
Suggested % body weight support?
0%
10%
25%
50%
25% body weight supported
PTs should NOT perform body weight–supported treadmill training to improve locomotive function after CNS injury? T or F
T, they should be walking training at moderate to high intensities
What is typically the preferred mode to administer a HIIT session in ambulatory individuals with stroke, assuming no precautions/contraindications?
treadmill, best evidence post stroke.
