Pulmonary infection Flashcards
What is pneumonia?
inflammation of the functional portion of the lung
What are the general radiographic findings of pneumonia?
partial or complete consolidation, silhouette sign, air bronchogram, pleural effusion, lung cavitation, emphyema
What are the causative agents of pneumonia?
Streptococcus pneumonia- MC community acquired agent
Haemophilus influenza- common in PTs w/ alcoholism, diabetes, chronic disease
What is tuberculosis?
Chronic granulomatous disease due to inhalation of mycobacterium tuberculosis
What are the 2 categories of TB?
primary & secondary
What are radiographic signs of primary TB?
lymphadenopathy with or without parenchymal consolidation in central lung
GRANULOMA
widened mediastinum & thickened hilar region
residual Ranke complex
What are radiographic signs of secondary TB?
parenchymal involvement = incomplete consolidation with strand like radiodensities & cavitations
Where is secondary TB found in the lung?
upper lobe/ apex due to greater oxygen tension
