Pulmonary Fiunction Test Flashcards
What does static lung function measure?
The maximal effort generated only at the beginning and end of the manoeuvre…….based on VOLUME not airflow
What does dynamic lung function measure?
Lung volumes and it flow during forced inspiration or expiration OR. during breathing when maximal applied in applied throughout the respiratory manouvre
FORCED EXPIRATORY VOLUME 1 FEV1
The volume of air exhaled in 1 second by a forced expiration after a full inspiration
* Reflects airflow
*Gauge if someone gas ASTHMA
Forced Vital Capacity(FVC)
Inhale maximally live SVC but hard & fast at exhalation
Measures total air expired after maximal exhalation
Forced Expiratory Ratio
FEV1/FVC …..Normal=75%
Increased/normal-indicates Restrictive Disorder eg muscular dystrophy,pulmonary fibrosis,sarcoidosis,obesity.
Decreased- Obstructive disorder eg COPD,asthma, cystic fibrosis.
Obstructive respiratory disorders
Difficult to get air out of the lungs
Decreased FVC
Increased TLC,RV,FRC
Decreased FEF 25-75%
RESTRICTIVE RESPIRATORY DISORDERS
Difficult to inspire
Decreased TLC,RV,FRC
Increased VC
