What is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?

A

Idiopathic interstitial pneumonia
Inflammatory cells infiltrate and pulmonary fibrosis of unknown cause.
Commonest ILD

What tests in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?

A

Blood:
ABG, Raised CRP, raised immunoglobulins

Imgaing:
CXR:
Reduced ung volume, bilateral lower zone reticulo-nodular shadows, honeycomb lung.

Spirometry - restrictive, reduced transfer factor

Lung biopsy - Usual interstitial pneumonia

A
Supportive care:
O2
Pulmonary rehabilitation
Opiates
Paliative care input

Lung transplant

Do not use high dose steroids

Nintedanib - immunosuppressant
