What is the purpose of the MATS PT1?
The Manual of Air Traffic Services contains procedures, instructions and information which are intended to form the basis of ATS within the UK.
It is published for use by civil air traffic controllers & may also be of general interest to others associated with civil aviation
What is the purpose of the MATS PT2?
The MATS pt2 contains instructions that apply to a particular ATSU, produced locally & approved by the CAA.
They amplify and interpret, at a local level, MATS PT 1 instrcutions. Any authorisation required by MATS PT1 is to appear in MATS PT 2

Air Navigation Order & Rules of the Air
Generally in line with Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) of ICAO
Which sections of the ANO are relevant and what do they include?
Section 1 - The order comprising a number of Articles, these Articles are amplified by Schedules
Section 2 - Rules of the Air
What is the UK AIP?
Aeronautical Information Publication
Issued by the state and contains aeronautical information of a lasting nature essential to air navigation.
AKA the Air Pilot
It is a notified document and is the LAW

General - covers all general aviation matters
EnRoute - covers all aspects of enroute regarding airways
Aerodrome 1 - General aerodrome information and aerodrome specific information for aerodromes beginning with the letters A-L
Aerodrome 2 - General aerodrome information and aerodrome specific information for aerodromes beginning with the letters M - Z
What are AICs
Aeronautical Information Circulars
Notices that contain information that doesnt qualify for a NOTAM or inclusion in AIP
What are the different colours of AICs and what do they refer to?
