Primary health care
A
This is provided by GP’s, dentist, opticians and pharmacists.
Primary health care services are normally accessed directly by the service user when needed.

Secondary health care
A
Includes most hospitals services, mental health services and many of the community health services.
Accessed via the GP who makes an appropriate referral to a consultant or health care specialist.

Tertiary health care
A
Specialist and often complex care provided in highly specialised unit and hospitals, for example spinal injury units
