Paragraph 1- definition

A

Collaboration definition is flexible - can be very public or just a few interactions. Is it grass roots led by public or that they are the recipient of the info.
Key concepts - an encompassing nature all fields - difficult to pin down and define. Hybrid.
Amateur can only be run by professionals.
Differing in countries depending on traditions, economics and legalisation.

Paragraph 2 - why

A

Public demand for experiences of this kind.
Helped through media etc showing archeology.
Builds relationships - interviewing etc. Meaning need to think how you interact with people. Taught how to do this?
Is this rewarding?
Also helps positive well being - we fell better

Paragraph 3 - Tsodilo hills

A

Involved UNESCO, research, sustainable tourism, national identity but didn’t include local people. Creates hostile environment.
They have local values. They were located, fences put up unable to hunt. Tourists coming in.
They feel alienated

Paragraph 4 - cons

A

Concerns about ineffectiveness. Been not as successful.
Loss flexible team.
Dual power means both legitimate - conflict.
Trustees are the project a lot of the time. Attempt to take it from above.
Democracy works - people take for granted. Need to be structured not loose, make sure everyone understands roles.
Local groups can be hostile about land.
Need to use we and our to make it seem inclusive - but is it?? - many excluded from major parts. Hard to include everybody in physical work.

Paragraph 5 - young people

A

Focus on young people through schools etc. Sig value of heritage and sites of the country.
Linked with appropriate teaching of political history.
More of outreach.
SERF - the big wee dig. You are the archeologist. Full control. Guidance and support involved
Experimental with young offenders - didn’t really work.
Ingenious communities - need to get consent. Special consideration of them. Building relationships.
Training community archeologists
