What are hormones?
Hormones are chemical substances which are directly poured into the blood stream by the endocrine glands and have effects on special target organs.
What is puberty?
Puberty is the period in children’s lives when they experience physical changes by which their bodies eventually become adult bodies that are capable of reproducing.
What are male hormones called?
Testosterone.
What are female hormones called?
Oestrogen.
Where’s the sperm made?
Testicles.
The mixture of sperm and fluids ejaculated are called what?
Semen.
The tube that carries sperm and urine outside of the male body is called?
Urethra.
The skin covering the tip of the penis is called what?
Foreskin.
Why are the testicles outside the male’s body hang slightly lower?
Temperature control.
When does puberty start?
Puberty can start as young as 8 years old or as old as 17 years old.
The ovaries contain special reproductive cells. Each of the cells are called what?
Ovarian.
What is another name for a girl having her period?
Menstruation.
Why do girls get periods?
Periods happen as a result of hormones released from a gland at the base of your brain called the pituitary gland. These hormones cause an egg to be released. At the same time, the lining of your uterus (or womb) is becoming thicker. If the egg does not get fertilised then the uterus lining starts to break down. The blood and tissue from this lining comes out through your vagina over the course of a few days.
When egg cells meet sperm, it’s called conception. What is another name?
Fertilisation.
During menstruation, how many days does it take for the egg to travel down the fallopian tube?
5-7 Days
