Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome
Traumatic events may include crimes, natural disasters, accidents, war or conflict or other threats to life. It could be an event or situation that an individual experiences themselves or witnessing/hearing about something that happened to others, including loved ones.
Re-living the event
any people have vivid nightmares, flashbacks or thoughts of the event that seem to come from nowhere.
Who Does It Affect?
There is no certainty why trauma causes PTSS in some people but not others. It may be linked to many different factors such: length of time the trauma lasted, the number of other traumatic experiences in a person’s life, their reaction to the event and/or the quality of support they received after the event.
Counseling/Therapy
Individuals can also learn skills like relaxation and techniques to bring one back to the present. Exposure Therapy, which can help a patient talk about their experience(s) and reduce avoidance,
Medications
Anti-Anxiety medication or Anti-Depressant medication,
Support Groups
Animal Assisted Intervention/Therapy
They are a place to share experiences and learn from others.
Animal-Assisted Therapy is designed to promote improvement in human physical, social, emotional, psychological or cognitive function.
