PTSD
Symptoms of Intrusion, Avoidance, Cognition/Mood Changes, Arousal/Reactivity
Symptoms last more than 1 month
Experienced, witnessed or learned about a traumatic event
Reoccurring memories of the event, dreams, dissociation, strong distress upon exposure to cues.
Avoidance of reminders of event
Irritability aggressive behavior, impulsive/destructive behavior, feeling constantly on-guard
Acute Stress Disorder
PTSD symptoms less than 4 weeks
PTSD at or under 6 years old
Witnessing trauma happening to caregivers most often
Dreams/memories not necessarily tied to the traumatic event
Increase in negative emotional states (fear, guilt, sadness, shame, confusion)
Construction of play
Social withdrawal
PTSD Specifiers
Dissociative Symptoms
Delayed expression (6 months+ after event)
Adjustment Disorder
Good as starting diagnosis when unsure of more acutely diag
Could last years. As long as stressor is still present and not beyond 6 months after it ends.
Reactive Attachment Disorder
Trauma disorder in children
Withdrawn behavior from adult caregiver
Persistent social and emotional disturbance
Pattern of extremely insufficient care
Evident by 5 years old, diagnosable when child is 9+ months
Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder
Child interacts with strangers w/ out checking w/ caregiver
Behaviors are not just impulsivity (like ADHD)
Pattern of insufficient care
Child is 9+ months
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Usually caused by trauma
