- T - Traumatic Event
- R - Recurrent intrusive symptoms related to the event - flashbacks, dreams, dissociative reactions
- A - avoidance of stimuli
- M - Negative alternations in moood eg fear, horror
- A - Alteration in arousal
- Disturbance is > 1month
- Disturbance causes significant impairment to function
- Symptoms are not attributable to other medical conditions or substances
