Fibrovascular triangular encroachment of epithelial tissue onto the cornea, usually nasally.

Complications of pterygium?
A
May induce astigmatism, decrease vision

When should pterygium be excised?
A
Excision for chronic inflammation, threat to visual axis, cosmesis.

A
Lubricating drops

A
Cause unknown; a/w prolonged exposure to sunlight, wind or sand.
