Q

PT intervention post-thoracoabdominal incision

A

Q

Five Sternal Precautions

A
  1. No shoulder flexion >90 deg
  2. No lifting > 5 lbs
  3. No pushing/pulling with UEs
  4. No sitting behind airbag

Q

Idea behind “Keep your move in the tube”

A

Alternative approach designed to teach patient show to perform load-bearing movements in a way that minimized sternal stress. Keeps UEs close to the body in an attempt to minimize lateral pull on sternum with humerus movement

Created due to natural pressure applied to sternum during coughing, sneezing, & lifting everyday items
