What can psychosis lead to?
Withdrawal from the outside world as the person becomes confused and disorientated
What can psychotic disorders be characterised by ?
Dilusions
Disorganised speech
Or behaviour that includes all types of schizophrenia
What’s meant by positive and negative symptoms?
Pos= in addition to normal behaviour
Negative= withdrawal /taking away from normal behaviour
What are 2 positive symptoms of schizophrenia?
Delusions
Auditory hallucinations
Disorganised speech
What are negative symptoms of schizophrenia ?
Losing emotional responses
Inability to feel pleasure
Lack of motivation
Disorganised aspect
What is in the DSM for schizophrenia ?
2 or more of the following:
Delusions
Hallucinations
Disorganised speech and behaviour
Negative symptoms
PLUS
Social occupational dysfunction , at least 6 months duration - no other explanation can be found - such as medication or developmental disorders
What’s on the ICD ?
Thought echo through insertion or withdrawal broadcasting Delusions of control Hallucinatory voices Persistent delusions Persistent hallucinations Incoherence or irrelevant speech Catatonic behaviour Negative symptoms such as marked apathy A significant and consistent in the overall quality of some aspects of personal behaviour
