What’s the classification of affective disorders?
Affective or mood disorders are characterised by strong emotions which influence an individual’s ability to function normally
Depression is one of the most common affective disorders
What’s major depression?
An episode of depression that can occur suddenly
May be reactive (caused by external factors) or endogenous (caused by internal factors)
What is manic depression?
(Bipolar )
Alternation between two extreme moods
Mood changes occur in regular cycle
Mania (over activity rapid speech extreme happiness or agitation) followed by depression
What are the emotional responses of depression?
Sadness
Depressed mood
Loss of involvement in usual activities
Irritability
What’s the physiological responses of depression?
Sleep deprecation
Agitation
Fatigue
Loss of energy
What are the characteristics of affective disorders?
Sibling moods
Prevents people living a normal life at work socially or within their family
Lack of sleep
Low self esteem
Withdrawal
Loss of appetite
