Delusional Disorder
A
- beginning in early adulthood
- criterion A for schizophrenia not met
- a least one delusion lasting one month or longer.

Schizotypal Disorder
A
- also known as personality disorder
- must have 5 or more symptoms
- beginning in early adulthood
- odd beliefs that influence behavior – “sixth sense”
- suspicious or paranoid ideation

Brief Psychotic Disorder
A
- delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, catatonia
- one symptom must be present
- disturbance is at least one day, but not longer than one month

Schizophreniform Disorder
A
-delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, extreme catatonic behavior, diminished emotional expression
- two or more symptoms must be present for a significant portion of a one month period
- no depressive or manic episodes
- episode lasts one month but not more than 6 months

Schizophrenia
A
- delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, extreme catatonic behavior, diminished emotional expression (criterion A)
- continuous signs of disturbance for at least six months
- lower level of life functioning in more then one area
- equivalent risk for both sexes

Schizoaffective Disorder
A
- major depressive or manic episode is concurrent with criterion A of schizophrenia
- higher rate in females

Substance/Medication Induced Psychotic Disorder
A
- delusions, hallucinations
- laboratory confirmation that the symptoms occurred soon after taking the drug.

Psychotic Disorder due to another medical condition
A
- prominent hallucinations or delusions
- not otherwise explained by another mental disorder
- laboratory finding of another medical condition
- often the most difficult to diagnose

Catatonia Disorder associated with another mental disorder
A
Three or more symptoms of psychomotor disturbances (12 subtypes)
- pathology leads to other medical condition
- the disturbance does not only happen in a state of delirium.
