Symptoms of Psychosis
Hallucinations: false sensory perceptions
Disorganized Speech
Grossly Disorganized Behavior
Negative Symptoms: flat or blunted affect, loss of will or agency
Symptoms of Psychosis
Delusions
Grandeur-notion of being bigger than you are
Guilt. Persecution
ill health Poverty
Jealousy. Thought ontrol
Passivity Reference-everything is in reference to the person
Delusional Disorder
At least one month of delusions that are non-bizarre
Never met A criteria for schizophrenia
Functioning not markedly affective
Duration of mood symptoms have been brief
Brief Psychotic Disorder
At least one of these: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, or disorganized or catatonic behavior
Symptoms at least 1 day but <30
Schizophreniform Disorder
2 or more present for one month: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized or catatonic behavior
Negative symptoms
Lasts at least one month but <6 months
Schizophrenia
Withdrawn or otherwise peculiar personality
Begins gradually at least 6 months before diagnosis behavior changes
During at least one month overtly psychotic (hallucinations &/or delusions)
Poor prognosis even with treatment
Schizophrenia (cont’d)
2 or more for at least 1 month: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior or negative symptoms
Level of functioning in one or more areas markedly low
Continuous signs of the disturbance persists for at least 6 months
Schizoaffective Disorder
An uninterrupted period of illness which there is a major mood episode(depressive or manic) concurrent with 2 or more psychotic symptoms for at least one month
Bipolar type or Depressive type
Substance/Medication Induced Psychotic Disorder
Presence of delusions &/or hallucinations
Evidence symptoms developed during or soon after substance intoxication or withdrawal AND the involve substance or medication is capable of producing hallucinations and delusions
Catatonia Associated with Another Mental Disorder
Three or more: Stupor, Catalepsy, Waxy Flexibility, Mutism, Negativism, Posturing, Mannerism, Stereotypy, Agitation,Grimacing, Echolalia, Echopraxia
