A

Extremely depressed mood lasting at least two weeks
Feelings of worthlessness or indecisiveness
Disturbed physical functioning
Anhedonia-loss of pleasure/interest in usual activities

A

Must include full manic episode
May include alterations between hypomanic episodes and depressive episodes

Manic Episode

A

A distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, irritable mood, increased goal-directed activity or energy most of the day for 1 week
3 or more of the following: inflated self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, more talkative than usual, flight of ideas/racing thoughts,distractability, increased goal directed activity/psychomotor agitation, excessive involvement in activities that have high potential for painful consequences

Hypomanic Episode

A

A distinct period of abnormally & persistently elevated and abnormally increased activity or energy lasting at least 4 days and present every day
With 3’or more of the following: inflated self esteem, decreased need for sleep, more talkative, flight of ideas, distractability, increased goal oriented activity, excessive involvement in risky behaviors
Unequivocal change of functioning

Major Depressive Episode

A

5 or more of the following symptoms for at least 2 weeks:
Depressed mood most of the day every day, diminished interest in pleasure in most activities, significant weight loss/gain, insomnia/hypersomnia, psychomotor agitation or retardation, fatigue/loss of energy, feelings of worthlessness/ guilt, diminished ability to think/concentrate, recurrent thoughts of death
Symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment

A

Criteria has been met for at least one hypomanic episode and at least one major depressive episode
There has never been a manic episode
