Describe the characteristics of disorganized thinking/speech
Thought control/withdrawal, broadcasting, loose associations, tangential, word-salad, circumstantial speech, poverty/prosody of speech, perseveration, clanging (rhyming)
Describe the characteristics of disorganized behavior
bizarre behavior/dress, decline in daily function, lack of impulse control, inappropriate emotional response, catatonia
Describe the characteristics of negative symptoms
flat affect, avolition, alogia, anhedonia, asociality, ambivalence, attention
Describe the types of delusion seen in psychotic disorders
- Persecutory: infidelity of partner, maleficence of social sphere
- Referential (ideas of reference): random things have deeper meaning specifically to them & may convey messages to them, toy is creator of universe, TV sending messages to them
- Grandiose: believing they are the king of the world, jesus, god, famous, CEO, etc.
- Erotomanic: delusion that someone else is in love with them/attracted to them
- Nihilistic: delusions of the world ending or major catastrophe occurring
- Somatic: hypochondria, something wrong with me, this pain is something, bugs under skin/in skull
