What is psychology (psychologist)?
Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes and how they are affected by an organism’s physical state, mental state, and external environment. It is the scientific systematic study of thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and the factors that influence these.
What is psychiatry?
Psychiatry is the study and treatment of mental illness, emotional disturbance, and abnormal behaviour (can give out drugs)
What is social work?
Social work is work carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those people in a community suffering from social deprivation
Describe the debate between nature versus nurture
Debate within psychology that is concerned with the extent to which particular aspects of behaviour are a product of either inherited (genetic) or acquired (learned) characteristics.
Physical appearance is often inherited, while reactions and personality depend on upbringing.
