Describe the principles and methods of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Relieves symptoms by changing maladaptive thoughts, beliefs, behaviour
Cognitive - education, monitoring, examining/challenging negative thoughts, cognitive rehearsal of coping with difficult situations
Behavioural - graded exposure, activity scheduling, reinforcement and reward, roleplay/modelling
Describe the key psychological therapies used within the NHS, and whom they would be suitable for
Psychodynamic (weekly sessions) - focal/analytic
Systemic (+ Family) - child psychiatry units
Humanistic (Client Centred) - relies on general counselling skills
Identify the mental health conditions that CBT is likely to be effective for
Depression Anxiety Eating disorders Psychotic symptoms Sexual dysfunction
Identify the patients that CBT is likely to be suitable for
