psychodynamic approach Flashcards

Q

using example from psychology , describe the psychodynamic assumptions of ‘ influence of childhood experiences ‘

A

def : Early childhood experience shapes our adult personality and future relationships. certain behaviour are develop through the process of psychosexual development .
Explain: 5 stages of psychosexual development. Fixation in a stage can influence adult personality and behaviour. Oral (0-1 years), anal (1-3), phallic (3-6), latency (7-13), genital (puberty +). If a child is frustrated or overindulged at any stage, this can lead to fixation.
Exa : oral stage is between 0-1 years old infants and the libido focus is the mouth , babies explore with their mouth it gives them the ability to exercise the environment around them . if infant being fed as soon as they want they become over indulged ,which has an effect on adult personality were they become gullible , trusting etc. If the infant experience frustration by keep waiting for food , the effect on adult personality will be oral aggressive.

Q

using an example from psychology , describe the psychodynamic assumption ‘the unconscious mind’

A

Def : Freud believe that our mind is like an iceberg . He believed that our unconscious mind has biggest influence .
Ex ; the conscious mind is at the tip of the iceberg , is part of the mind of what we are currently aware of . the preconscious mind is what we could be conscious of if we thought bout it e.g memories and the unconscious mind is hidden and cannot be accessed but contains thought and feelings that can still motive our behaviour.
Exa ; Freud suggested that the unconscious
mind has unresolved conflicts and these
conflicts influence our behaviour. To protect the ego Freud believed that we have ego
defence mechanisms to keep traumatic event in unconscious mind . These occur when there is conflict between the Id, Ego
and Superego. 5 examples of these defence mechanisms include regression,
repression, displacement, projection and
denial.

Q

using examples from psychology , describe the psychodynamic assumptions of ‘tripartite personality’

A

def ; 3 parts of personality . the ID, ego and superego.
Ex ; The Id is the part that we are born with it is instinctive demands immediate gratification of it’s needs and operate on the pleasure principle.
The ego develops next and is the logical part of personality it operates on the reality principle.
Finally the superego is the last part to develop it operates on the morality principle and is complete when we have developed our sense of right and wrong (conscience).
Exa ; An example of a person with a weak ego and a dominant ID would grow up to be selfish and show no remorse for their behaviour
