biological approach Flashcards
using an example from psychology , describe the biological assumption of evolutionary influences
Def: The theory of evolution has been used to explain how the human mind and behaviours have changed over millions of years so they are adapted to the demand of our individual environments. human behaviour is product of evolutionary process.
Explain : genetic diversity , allow changes to occur .we evolve as we trying to survive - adaption important through natural selection - does who survive breed the traits that allows us to survive within the environment will be passed on - those that inherit behavioural patterns that are adapted to the environment will survive and pass on trait and so on.
E.g Nyctophobia .
using an example from psychology , describe the biological assumption of ‘neurotransmitter’
def : neurotransmitter is a chemical massager passed from presynaptic neuron to the postsynaptic neuron .
Exp : it works by neurotransmitter released from presynaptic neuron by electrical signals and those diffuse across the synapse and absorbed by postsynaptic neuron. the message is then converted back into an electrical message.
Exa : GABA it affects our behaviour by producing a calming affect , which helps with reducing anxiety and stress.
explain the biological assumption ‘ localisation of brain function ‘
def : localisation of function is the theory that certain areas of the brain are responsible for different functions . there are 4 lobes .
Ex : FRONTAL LOBE - located at the front of the brain responsible for problem solving , personality etc.
PARIENTAL LOBE - middle section of the brain , responsible for sensory process such as pain
TEMPORAL LOBE : located at the bottom of the brain , responsible for auditory information / processing .
OCCIPITAL LOBE : located at the back of the brain , processing visual information .
if any lobe gets damage it affect the how the body respond and behaviour
Exa : Phineas Gage had a pole going through his frontal lobe , this damage it and the consequence of this incident was change of behaviour where he become more aggressive .
