Psych/Soc Flashcards
type 1 error
false positive
type 2 error
false negative
p-value
probability that a difference observed in an experiment is due to chance
internal validity
extent to which the causal conclusion drawn based on the results of a study is warranted
construct validity
the degree to which a test measures the construct it was designed to measure
external validity
generalizability of the findings of a study to the rest of the population + other situations
predictive validity
the extent to which a score on a test/study predicts the value of some other variable
type of criterion validity
ecological validity
whether the data accurately reflect the behaviour or responses as they would occur in a “natural” setting
population validity
whether the data can be extrapolated to the rest of the population (outside the sample/sampling frame)
test validity
how much value can be placed upon a set of test results
content validity
whether items on a test measure knowledge/skills assumed to underlie the construct of interest
measure of comprehensiveness - does the test measure every single element of a construct?
criterion-related validity
ability of test scores to correlate with criterion measures
criterion measures
outcome measures influenced by tested construct (i.e. grades or performance)
concurrent validity
measures how well a test matches up with a benchmark test (usually another valid measure of the same construct)
convergent validity
whether constructs that are expected to be related are related
