differences between nightmares and night terrors
nightmares occur during REM sleep, while night terrors occur during NREM sleep and involve panic with no memory of the event
effects of sleep deprivation
cognitive deficits, impaired memory, mood disturbances, and physical health issues in both humans and animals
why do we dream
Freud* suggested dreams provide access to the unconscious, while modern research connects them to processing life events or virtual reality for consciousness
