What is the difference between thought echo and thought broadcasting?

A

Thought echo is where the patient hears their thoughts echoed back to them internally

Thought broadcasting is where the patient believes their thoughts are being broadcast/ transmitted out loud into the external environment (others can hear them)

A

Not a dellusion

Ideas that are held with intense emotional commitment, despite being at odds with what is generally accepted

Eg. body dysmorphic disorder

- Applies specific significance (eg. therefore I am the king)

What is the difference between general nihilistic delusions and Cotard’s syndrome?

A

General nihilistic delusions are beliefs can encompass various aspect of non-existance (person, home, world etc)

Cotard’s syndrome is directly related to the person eg. they’re rotting, dead, have no internal organs etc. Person denying their own existance/ life

A

When voices are making a running commentary of the patient’s actions

What is the difference between a section 5(2) and section 4?

A

Both up to 72 hours

  • Section 5(2) can only be initiated in a hospital setting and by a clinician >=FY2
  • Section 4 is applied generally in community settings are can be initiated by AMPH and clinician >=FY2, clinician must have seen the patient within 24 hours
