What is OCD?
Repetitive behavior done to ↓ anxiety r/t obsessions
What are the THREE types of anxiety disorders?
- ) Generalized
- ) Separation
- ) Panic
What is the treatment for anxiety disorders?
Buspirone (BusPar) – monitor polyuria, polydipsia, thyroid function, nausea, diarrhea, weight gain
SSRI (monitor suicide)
What is sensory integration dysfunction?
Child cannot organize sensory input used in ADLs
Child is hypo/hypersensitive to sound, touch, smell, balance, pain, taste, etc.
Medications used to treat ADHD =
Psychostimulants: Adderall, Ritalin, and/or Focalin
Monitor: ↓ appetite, HA, tachy, HTN, & kidney/liver
Anorexia =
Fear of gaining weight/becoming overweight
S/S of anorexia =
Underweight, cachectic, dry/sallow skin, thin hair, ↓ VS, and 1/3 will have MV prolapse
Treatment for anorexia =
Support Nutrition management F&E monitoring/balance Counseling Goal to gain 2-3lbs/week
Bulimia =
Binge eating and then purging
Purging done by vomiting, diuretics, or laxatives
Are pt’s w/bulimia usually underweight?
NO – they are typically normal weight/BMI OR even overweight
Complications of bulimia =
Heart failure or damage to esophagus/teeth errosion
Complication of anorexia =
Amenorrhea, osteoporosis, infertility, etc.
