a chronic condition due to hyperproliferation of keratinocytes and inflammatory cell infiltrates
what are signs of psoriasis?
well demarcated scaly plaques that can be found on extensors. itchy.

what is the management?
- avoid worsening factors
- emollients can reduce scales
- localised/mild: topical vit d analogues/ topical steroids/ coal tar, dithranol, topical retinoids
- extensive disease; phototherapy
- severe or systemic: methotrexate/retinoids/ciclosporin
what nail changes occur in psoriasis?
onycholysis
pitting
ridging
what causes psoriasis?
multifactoral
genetic: PSORS1 MHC on chromosone 6
exacerbating factors: trauma, infection, sunlight,drugs
what is generalised pustular psoriasis?
a dermatology emergency
what are triggers for generalised pustular psoriasis?
skin infection
rapid withdrawal of systemic steroids
lithium
beta blockers
what are features of generalised pustular psoriasis?
erythema painful oedema superficial pustules desquamation aki
what is the Mx of generalised pustular psoriasis?
ICU
topical emollient
systemic IV infliximab or ciclosporin
