Why is proper hand hygiene important?
reduces the risk of infection, reduces the transfer of infectious agents, breaks the chain of transmission
What are the four moments of hand hygiene?

What is the preferred method for hand hygiene?
alcohol based hand rubs
What type of gloves should we avoid?
latex, powdered, co-polymer (sandwich)
When do you not need to wear gloves?
touch intact skin, social tough, providing not direct health care
When do you wear a gown?
when your risk assessment suggests that a procedure or activity is likely to generate splashes or sprays
What are some expanded PPE?
droplet precaution, airborne prevention, contact precaution
What are the steps of putting on PPE?
ABHR, gown, gloves, mask, eye protection
What are the steps of taking off PPE?
gloves, gown, ABHR, eye protection, mask, ABHR
What are routine practices?
applies to anybody regardless of whether or not they have an infectious disease
How can you break the infectious agent chain?
antibiotics, disinfection/sterilization
How can you break the reservoir chaini?
proper food storage, treat water
How can you break the portal of exit chain?
cover mouth and nose, good hand hygiene, safe disposal of contaminated stuff
How can you break the modes of transmission?
hand hygiene, spatial separation, proper air flow, environmental sanitation
How can you break the portals of entry chain?
wound care, catheter care, using PPE
