Protists - Structure Flashcards
Use Amoeba as the example of a protists and list the 8 characteristics that make up a protist:
Plasma membrane Nucleus Contractile vacuole Food vacuole Ectoplasm Endoplasm Lysosomes Pseudopodia
Explain what the plasma membrane is/does:
Encloses and protects organism and allows for gaseous exchange and diffusion to occur
Explain what the nucleus is/does:
Controls cell activities
Explain what the contractile vacuole is/does:
Controls water balance by osmosis regulation
Explain what the food vacuole is/does:
Contains food and fuses with lysosome to digest food
Explain what the ectoplasm is/does:
Outer part of cytoplasm, jelly like
Explain what the endoplasm is/does:
Inner part of cytoplasm with a liquid like nature
Explain what the lysosome is/does:
Has digestive enzymes for digestion
Explain what the pseudopodia is/does:
Bulge (tentacles) of cytoplasm used for locomotion or to engulf food
With the help of the photo below name the parts of the protists:
Food vacuole Nucleus Endoplasm Ectoplasm Plasma membrane Lysosome Pseudopodia Contractile vacuole
