Protiens Flashcards
Structural formula of an amino acid
An amino acid must have an amine group and Carboxyl group bonded to the same carbon with a variable organic group or hydrogen.
What is strange about the amino acid proline ?
It does not use the general structure of amino acids
Essentials amino acids
Amino acids that must be obtained through the diet.
Amino acids that can be obtained by the diet or synthesised by the body during times of illness or stress.
Conditional amino acids
Non essential
Amino acids that can be manufactured by the body.
How are two amino acid molecules joined together?
They are bonded by a condensation reaction. Therefore you get the product + water
Tripeptide
Three amino acids joined together.
Which functional groups do all amino acids contain?
Carboxyl-COOH
Amine-H2N
