proteins, chapter 3 Flashcards
1
Q
globular protein
A
- molecules curled up into a ball (have a tight tertiary structure)
-soluble in water - hydrophillic and polar R-groups point outwards
- hydrophobic and non-polar R groups point inwards
2
Q
fibrous proteins
A
- Quaternary protein structure
- formed from long insoluble molecules
- high proportion of hydrophobic R-groups in primary structures
- repetitive amino acid sequences (very organaized structures)
- strong
3
Q
what are conjugated proteins
A
- globular proteins that contain a non-protein component called a prosthetic group (major part of protien funtion)
4
Q
bonds present in primary, secondary and tertiary
A
primary : peptide bonds
secondary : hydrogen bonds and peptide bonds
tertiary : disulphide bonds, hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, peptide bonds, hydrophillic/phobic interactions
