Proteins Flashcards
What do proteins regulate?
Turns enzymes on/off
What is signalling a protein?
Activating in certain circumstances then ‘send a signal’
What are the 4 structure’s of a protein?
Primary- AA sequence.
Secondary- forms folded sheeted shell.
Tertiary- polypeptide chain.
Quaternary- assembled subunit
Where is a peptide bond located?
Between carboxyl and amine
What process makes a protein?
Condensation
What do enzymes determine?
Rate of work- intensity?
What is a substrate complex?
Substrate conc. determines rate
Describe the Ea?
Free energy passed
Largest first
Describe Km
Michaels constant= substrate conc. at 1/2 VO2 max.
Low= high affinity to substrate
Increased from reversible competitive inhibitor
Define a coenzyme
An molecule working with an enzyme which is chemically altered
e.g. NADH>NAH+H
Define a cofactor
molecule working with an enzyme that is not chemically altered
What is a prosthetic group?
A non-protein compound which is required for function but not part of the structure
What uses diffusion?
water/lipid soluble molecules
What uses facilitated diffusion and example?
Fat soluble molecules/ions which need a protein channel
e.g.
SGLT1- moves Na and glycose from intestinal lumen to blood in gut
Reason why CHO gets limited in long excersise
What is the purpose on consuming fructose?
More ATP syntheses
Stops limitation of low CHO
