protein synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
How are proteins made?
A
protein synthesis
-transcription
-translation
2
Q
what is transcription?
A
-the process of copying the message on the template into MRNA
-occurs in the nucleus
3
Q
what is the process of transcription?
A
- gene unzips, 1 DNA strand as template
- using sequence of nucleotide on template, RNA nucleotides pair to them
- each RNA added as result of complementary base pairing to form MRNA strand - one MRNA completely synthesised, leaves nucleus and attaches to ribosome in the cytoplasm.
4
Q
what is translation?
A
-process where MRNA is transported to the cytoplasm where ribosomes will help translate the sequence of nucleotides on the MRNA into a protein finally.
5
Q
what is the process of translation?
A
genetic code
-every 3 nucleotide codes for single amino acid
-performed by ribosome
-amino acid joined together by peptide bonds to form polypeptide
-polypeptide undergo 3D configuration change and becomes a protein.
