Protect Ya Neck Flashcards
What is the purpose of the transverse ligament and why is it important?
Keeps C1 in line with C2.
Checked post trauma, and in RA and DS pts.
Where is the site of degenerative disease in the c-spine?
Uncovertebral joints
“Gutters”
How are C1 and C2 different than the lower cervical spine?
C1 - no vert body, no IV foramen, no IV disc, first bump felt on skull
C2 - Same as above, but dens, “the axis” which causes rotation to happen.
What motions does the posterior longitudinal ligament resist?
Flexion
Where is the center of rotation in the c-spine?
The posterior 1/3 of the disc
In extension, the corn and nerve roots are ________________ and ___________.
Slackened, compressed.
What is closed pack position for the c-spine?
Lateral Bending / Spurling’s
In extension what direction does the c-spine move in?
Translates and rotates posteriorly
What is the difference reflexively between a myelopathy and a radiculopathy?
Myelopathy is UMN. Nerve Root is LMN.
