Pelvic pain

Sexual dysfunction
Pain with bowel movements
Tender and enlarged prostate
What are the differentials of prostatitis?
UTI

What investigations are useful in the diagnosis of prostatitis?
DRE
Urinalysis
Urine MC&S
PSA
Screening for STIs
What is the management of acute bacterial prostatitis?
Hospital admission
Sepsis screen
Oral antibiotics for 2-4 weeks - ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin or trimethoprim
Analgesia
Laxatives for pain during bowel movements
What is the management of chronic prostatitis?
Alpha-blockers
Analgesia
Antibiotics if <6 months of symptoms - trimethoprim or doxycycline for 4-6 weeks
Laxatives for pain during bowel movements
