To permit ejaculatory action and to secrete a mucous to keep sperm alive

Behind ureters, lies on rectum
What is BPH characterised by?
Fibromuscular and glandular hyperplasia
Where does BPH primarily affect?
Transition zone
What does progressive BPH result in?
Bladder Outflow Obstruction
Name some voiding symptoms ?
Hesitancy, Poor Stream, Terminal Dribbling, Incomplete Emptying
What are some storage symptoms?
Frequency, nocturia, urgency
What investigations should be done for BPH?
MSSU, Flow Rate Study, PSA, Urea and creatinine, Cytoscopy, urodynamic studies, Biopsy
What is the treatment for uncomplicated BPO?
Alpha Blockers - causes hypotension in some subjects
5ARI
TURP, prostatectomy
What are the side affects of 5ARI’s?
Decrease in sexual drive and increase in breast tissue growth
What is pyronephritis?
Pus in kidney
