Proprioception and kinaesthesia Flashcards
Proprioception
the ability to sense exactly where our body is in space / sense of position
and balance / cognitive and subconscious aware of space.
how do we have proprioception?
there are sensors/ receptor all over our body in all over our muscles
the receptor is sensitive to stretching : as our muscle contracts , the spindle in the receptor stretches which fires a signal to the brain
Kinesthesia
the movement of body
behavioural:
teach yourself exactly how you should move to complete the task after repeating it more and more
types of senses
1-temperature / thermoception
2- pressure / mechanoception
3- pain /nociccption
4- position / proprioception
Intensity
how quickly do the neutrons fire
cold > few times in a minute
Timing
1- non- adapting : ( equal amount of space between ) entire time the stimulus , it will constantly fire action potentials.
2- Slow adapting ( slow to adapt in change of stimulus ) there is fast firing of action potentials but the it slows down and the space increases
3- Fast Adapting neurons really quickly when it starts and really quick when it stops
Location
nerve that sends message to the brain
