propagation of the action potential Flashcards

Q

how can the conduction velocity of axons be measured?

A

place a stimulus electrode on nerve fibre. there is a positive and negative stimulus electrode. the negative electrode is the point at which you can initiate an action potential. you can then measure extracellularly what kind of signal you get. crushing the end of the nerve to damage it will make the action potential not get to the damaged section and measure from one point to the other.
