What do demonstratives refer to?
space or time
In Spanish, how many levels of physical distance are there? What are they?
In Spanish, there are three levels of physical distance: este, ese, aquel

Something close to the speaker, either in time (recently) or space (close)
They will be used in situations where the adverb ‘aquí’ can be employed

Something close to the speaker, but also not too far away
They will be used in situations where the adverb ‘ahí’ can be employed.

What do demonstratives aquel/aquella/aquellos/aquellas define?
Something that is really distant to the speaker
They will be used in situations where the adverb allí can be employed

Where time is referenced what does ‘este’, ‘ese’ and ‘aquel’ indicate?
‘este’ indicates that it is a present time
‘ese’ and ‘aquel’ indicate the past
