Q

What the vase shows about costumes

A

Tragic mask in this period was plain and not highly stylised whereas the costumes show great decoration and intricate design, with patterns and figures of people and animals. Had close-fitting sleeves which hid the age/gender of actors allowing them to change role more easily. Dionysus wearing himation and Ariadne wearing himation and chiton. Wearing kothornoi

Q

People on the vase

A

vase named after the aulos player in the middle, one of the most famous musicians of the late fifth-century from thebes called Pronomous. Dionysus and Ariadne, Demetrios seems to be the playwright because he holds a scroll, another female character holding a female mask, maybe a personification of the satyr-play.
