Prokaryotic Cells and Virus Structure Flashcards
What is a capsule?
Outer layer of prokaryote that prevents desiccation, protects cells from antibodies and viruses
What is the cell wall made of?
Murein
What is flagellum used for?
Locomotion
What is a Mesosome?
A membrane infold that increases surface area for respiration or photosynthesis
What is the 1st step of Binary Fission?
DNA and plasmids replicate and the cell elongates. DNA moves to opposite poles of the cell
What is the 2nd step of Binary Fission?
Cytoplasm begins to divide and new cells begin to form. The cytoplasm divided to produce 2 daughter cells
What is a capsid?
A protein coat that protects RNA
What is the 1st step of Virus Replication?
Virus detects host cell by recognising protein marker on its membrane. Virus attacked to cell using attachment proteins
What is the 2nd step of Virus Replication?
Virus injects genetic material into cell and the cell reproduces the genetic material.
What is the 3rd step of Virus Replication?
The cells creates new viral proteins and the virus leaves the cell using some of the cells own membrane to form itself.
