Prokaryotic cells Flashcards
Structure of prokaryotic cells
- single celled
- lack of membrane bound organelles
- single circular chromosome of DNA
- Have plasmids
- Ribosome for protein synthesis
Prokaryotic reproduction
asexual by binary fission
example of prokaryotic cell
bacteria
Interphase
G1 phase - cell growth & protein synthesis
S phase - DNA replication
G2 phase - Cell growth & prep for mitosis
Prophase
Plump chromosones
Chromosomes condense, nuclear envelope breaks down, spindle fibres form
Metaphase
Middle lining up
Chromosomes line up at the equator of the cell
Anaphase
(pulled) appart
sister chromatids seperate and move to opposite poles of the cell
Telaphase
two nuclei are forming
Nuclear envelopes form around the chromosomes, chromosomes unravel.
Cytokinesis
cells split
Cytoplasm divides, forming 2 genetically identical daughter cells
the cell cycle
