Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells Flashcards
1
Q
Define prokaryotic cells
A
They do not have a nucleus or membrane-enclosed organelles.
2
Q
Define Eukaryotic cells
A
Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and cell organelles, all of which are enclosed by membranes.
3
Q
How are living things grouped into eukaryotes and prokaryotes?
A
By their structure and complexity of their cells.
4
Q
Describe Prokaryotic organisms (5)
A
Prokaryotic organisms:
- are single-celled
- Have a circular loop of DNA (not surrounded by a membrane)
- Have small cells
- Don’t have a membrane or enclosed structures
- Include bacteria
5
Q
Describe Eukaryotic organisms (5)
A
Eukaryotic organisms:
- Have a nucleus
- may have membrane-enclosed organelles e.g. mitochondria and chloroplasts.
- Have large cells
- Include animals, plants and fungi.
- Are more advanced than prokaryotes
