Microscopes Flashcards
How many lenses does a compound microscope use? Name the lenses
It uses 2 lenses, an objective lens and an eyepiece lens.
How is the total magnification of the image figured out?
The power of the two lenses are multiplied together.
What do compound microscopes utilize to show the image?
Light
Name the parts of the compound microscope (11)
Coarse focus Fine focus Clip Stage height adjuster Mirror or light source Diaphragm Condenser Stage or platform Objective lens Nosepiece Eyepiece lens
what are the functions of the coarse and fine focus’?
Coarse focus: For approximate focusing
Fine focus: For precise focusing
what are the functions of both lenses on a compound microscope?
Eyepiece lens: Magnifies the image
Objective lens: Magnifies the image
what are the functions of the Nosepiece, clip and stage/platform
Nosepiece: rotates to move the desired lens in place
Clip: holds slide in place
Stage/platform: supports the slide
what are the functions of the condenser and diaphragm?
Condenser: focuses light on the slide: not present in all microscopes
Diaphragm: adjusts the amount of light reaching the slide
what are the functions of the mirror or light source and the stage height adjuster?
Mirror or light source: to supply light to the slide
Stage height adjuster: To move the stage up and down
