Context diagram
A graphical method of representing a system using a single process together with inputs and outputs
Data dictionary
Provides a comprehensive description of each field of a database or information system.it contains information about the characteristics of each item entered into a table, eg field names, data types, field size
Data flow diagram
Graphical representation of representing a system using a number of processes together with inputs, outputs and storage. Shows the logical flow of data through the system.
Decision table
A table created to show all possible outcomes from decision statements within the system
Decision tree
Similar to a decision table but expressed in a diagrammatic form
Direct conversion
Involves the immediate change from the old system to the new system on a particular date
Ethics
A set of moral principles accepted by society as a standard against which an individual’s behaviour may be judged
Feasibility
A report where the nature of the problem is clearly described and recommendations are made to management as to whether the proposed solution is practicable
Gantt chart
A timeline that represents when tasks or stages in the project development cycle are to be completed
Operator’s manual
This is used to describe the logical steps to be followed by the participant or user as they use the system or program
Parallel conversion
Involves the old and new systems working together for some time
Phased conversion
Involves the gradual implementation of certain components of the new system over a period of time
Pilot conversion
Involves trialling the new system in a local area before implementing the whole system across the entire organisation
