Project control Flashcards
What is the purpose of EVM?
It prevents you need to check every activity individual to check the progress of your project.
What is a performance factor PF?
Factor based on information from problems that occurred during the project => What is the nature of the problem?
- Unique problems that come and goes (sickness)
- Structural problem (bad suppliers, late, low quality, …)
On what does taking act depends when your behind schedule/over budget?
- Identify problem why
- What is project objective? Cost/Time/NPV?
- Yourself
Why is SPI not a reliable metric to use?
EV can have a maximum value equal to BAC (EV=perc of completion x BAC)
PV can have a maximum value equal to BAC
EV and PV have this value and the end of the project.
This results in an SPI = 1 (EV/PV)
=> SPI always 1 at the end of the project
=> even if the project finishes dramatically late, SPI still has a value = 1
=> Gives a false impression of the progression of the project
How can you solve the SPI problem?
Using Earned Schedule (ES)
What is the earned schedule?
The duration according to the planned value where you created the earned value. This way the earned value is transferred to a time expression which makes more sense.
